Given its suitability for internal sealing and bonding applications, the ideal product was Sikaflex®-221 white, a one component adhesive sealant. It was deemed even more appropriate due to the large size of the joints. These side joints, and the 150 m long side panels, were bonded with an application of 120 units of Sikaflex®-221. The product was also used in the replacement of the roofing bolts. Not only does it bond well to a variety of substrates – in this instance the roof substrate was metal – but can also be painted over and is resistant to aging.  

 

 

 

To ensure that the chicken coops were waterproofed properly, by allowing no water ingress through the roof joints, Sika’s waterproofing system, Sikalastic®-560, was selected. It was the obvious choice, given that it is a one component, liquid applied roof waterproofing solution and based on Sika Co-Elastic technology. The product is ideal for roofs with many details and complex geometry such as those chicken coops. The benefits of this product are endless: UV resistant, resistant to yellowing and weathering, is non-toxic and has excellent adhesion to porous and non-porous substrates. Once applied, it leaves a beautifully seamless finish. Sikalastic®-560 was applied on top of the roof bolts as a protective layer, together with the full Fleece GI membrane system. It proved to be an ideal product for a refurbishment such as this one.

Ros ensured that all products specified were delivered on time and that they were correctly applied. There left little doubt as to where Sika are in the pecking order!
